World Internet Project Annual Partners’ Meeting

Melbourne, 10–12 July 2007

Convened by Scott Ewing and Julian Thomas

The 2007 WIP partners’ meeting is supported by the ARC Centre of Excellence for Creative Industries and Innovation.

Venue

The venue will be the Treetops Room at the Melbourne Museum. The Museum should provide a stimulating and comfortable environment for our meeting. Coffee, lunches and morning and afternoon teas are all provided. The Museum is located very close to the city centre and is near the suburbs of Fitzroy and Carlton, home to many of Melbourne's restaurants, cafes, bars and live music venues.

Program

A draft program is here >>

Accommodation

The Crossley Hotel is approximately a 15 minute walk from the conference venue at the Melbourne Museum and is very close to the tramline that runs past the museum. It is located in Melbourne's Chinatown in the central business district so is surrounded by restaurants, shops, bars etc.

The rate is A$129 (around US$106) per room per night (room only) or A$146 per room per night including full breakfast for 1 person.   Twin rooms are available for those that want to share with a colleague for the same price.

You can call +61 3 9639 1639 and quote reservation group code '080707' or e-mail on h3032@accor.com

As guests of the hotel you will be able to use the Gym and pool at Melbourne City Baths free of charge on presentation of hotel room key so don't forget your googles. This is a great facility in an historic building.

Tours

On Friday 13 July we will be travelling to the Yarra Valley, around an hour from the city. We’ll take in a guided tour of a native wildlife park, followed by lunch and a wine tasting at nearby De Bortoli winery. More information on the Yarra Valley is here.

On the Saturday we'll be taking a trip along the Great Ocean Road. This is a highlight of regional Victoria and is nicely scenic (more photos).

These tours are likely to cost around $100 Australian each ($80 US or 60 Euros).

Conference Dinner

The conference dinner will be held on the Wednesday night at Abla's, a nearby Lebanese restaurant, and a much loved part of Melbourne's food culture (see http://www.ablas.com.au/ ).
