Student 9: Ministerial adviser, Tasmania

Why did you do the course?
The opportunity arose to obtain a formal qualification (Graduate Certificate) which I have always wanted to achieve. The cost was not prohibitive as it was funded by my employer. In addition the course was relevant to my work and allowed me to study in an environment which was comfortable and un-intimidating.

What were the benefits of doing the course?
I have gained the confidence to debate housing issues within the Housing portfolio. The course has provided some history to the issues seen by governments and agencies. It has also provided me with the grounding to further my career and the confidence to venture into further study.

Did your specific housing skills and knowledge improve as a result?
My knowledge base has definitely improved which is allowing me to look at housing from an overall perspective.

Where do you think your working future lies?
I hope my working future will continue on its current path, working with and providing advice to the minister on Housing issues.

Other comments?
Although the course was conducted within a comfortable environment I did find the assignment writing very difficult in the first year.
