Student 2: Social policy consultant, ACT

Why did you do the course?
I needed a tertiary qualification as a career incentive –and I was offered a scholarship.

What were the benefits of doing the course?
The benefits are largely covert –in that I have obviously got a lot more from the course than I thought at the time –I am often amazed about how much I know about social housing –much of which must have come from the course and which rises to the surface fairly frequently!

Did your specific housing skills and knowledge improve as a result?
Yes.

Where do you think your working future lies?
Consulting in the social policy arena –and providing support to the community housing sector.

Other comments?
The structure of the course is understated –while it appears from first reading to be routine, the quality of the information is such that the scope to go further to explore a range of different perspectives is immense –and while at the time the course seemed at times like a chore, the benefits are hard to quantify.
