Student 1: Community housing, ACT
Why did you do the course?
I had heard many positive reports about it from a few tenancy workers
who had done it, as well as some Housing ACT staff.
I believed it would enhance my knowledge and understanding of the
Australian housing sector and assist me to do my work better.
What were the benefits of doing the course?
It gave me a broader understanding
of housing from a provider's perspective rather than a tenant perspective.
The long-distance aspect was useful in that I was able to fit study
with my full-time work schedule.
Did your specific housing skills and knowledge improve as a result?
Yes.
Where do you think your working future lies?
In the housing sector, continuing as a tenant advocate.
Other comments?
There are some difficulties because of the small numbers
of tenancy workers/advocates doing the course in that it is definitely
skewed
to housing providers. Because of this I have viewed
the course as an opportunity to understand the perspective of providers.
