Projects - Jocks and Rocks:Attitudes to Gener and Sexuality in a University Course

Victoria University
This pilot study was the first of its kind in an Australian university and developed, in part, from the client's prior, strong commitment to the improvement of inclusive teaching and learning. We administered a sexuality and teaching attitudes survey to develop a profile of first year students' attitudes to gender, sexuality and the curriculum. Further insights from staff and students were compiled through semi-structured interviews. The research explored the apparent gap between what students were able to discuss about gender and sexualities and how those attitudes were actually lived out in a predominantly macho student culture.

Following the initial report, a further survey has been distributed to the next cohort of students to form a longitudinal study.
