The Swinburne Institute for Social Research (The Swinburne Institute) is one of the largest social sciences and humanities research centres in Australia, with an international reputation for independent, innovative and excellent research.
Flagship Research Groups
The Swinburne Institute has a strong national and international links with researchers and policymakers from around the world. It hosts a node of the Australian Research Centre (ARC) Centre of Excellence in Creative Industries and Innovations, the Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for Spatial Information, CRC for Low Carbon Living, is a centre of the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute (AHURI), a member of the Sustainable Environment National Research Centre (SBEnrc) and is a partner in the Australian Urban Research Information Network (AURIN). Its research addresses some of Australia's most significant social, economic and environmental problems.Researchers at the Swinburne Institute have a wide range of interests and work across disciplines including urban planning, economics, statistics, sociology, history, media studies and political sciences. Their work converges around four main areas which form the flagship groups:
