    The Swinburne Institute's Communication and Creativity flagship investigates, influences and invents new forms of media. It undertakes independent research about the uses and possibilities of media, participates actively in policy debates, and develops innovative enterprises that produce and communicate research and commentary about society, the economy, culture and politics.

    The Democracy and Justice Research Flagship brings together a diverse group of scholars with backgrounds in political science, sociology, history, cultural studies and anthropology. Our work is driven by intellectual curiosity and by the desire to influence public policy. While much of our research is theoretical, other projects are done in conjunction with industry partners in pursuit of more tangible outcomes.

    The sustainability challenge of the 21st century will be won or lost in the cities. They are a nation's key economic engines, demographic absorbers and resource consumers as well as a major locus for social opportunities and threats. How we manage cities thus becomes one of the major challenges for the future.

    Socially Sustainable Technologies Flagship

    The Socially Sustainable Technologies Flagship examines the social dimensions of emerging technologies. It examines public engagement with science and technology, the dynamics of innovation, and the transitions in socio-technical and socio-economic regimes. The Flagship is multi-disciplinary, and its people include specialists from Sociology, Management, Communications, Public Policy and Psychology.
