Events - Community Housing Seminar Series


October 2004 to April 2005

The Community Housing Federation of Victoria and the Swinburne Institute for Social Research in partnership with the Office of Housing are holding a community housing seminar series. There will be no charge to participants.

The series will:

  • explore key issues and the implications for community housing organisations
  • promote an understanding of the future for organisations
  • examine strategies and build relationships to meet that future.

The series will aim to:

  • promote housing enterprise
  • encourage reflection
  • be participatory
  • provide information and insight for practice
  • be applicable to organisations.

Those for whom the series will be useful include:

  • co-ordinators, team leaders of frontline staff, and frontline staff of community housing
  • voluntary members of boards of management
  • CEOS and managers of agencies
  • OoH staff with responsibility for community housing funding, contracts, and service delivery
  • promoters of industry development including OoH and representative organisations.

Numbers will be limited to a maximum of 50 participants per seminar, including facilitators and presenters.

Seminar 1: Building sustainable housing organisations

Key issues and questions:

  • Why be in it?
  • For whom?
  • Best outcomes for clients?
  • What key features are essential?
  • How do we get there?

Seminar 2: Governing for sustainable growth

Key issues and questions:

  • Why?
  • How?
  • Is size the only measure and/or capacity for doing the business?
  • What strategies are necessary: financial viability and investment?; stock transfers and asset management?; creating-maintaining organisational oomph - values, vision, workforce development, amid change?; planning and managing for change?; Working with communities?

Date: 2 December 2004

Venue: Duxton Hotel, Flinders Street, Melbourne

Seminar 3: Growing partnerships

Key issues and challenges:

  • Why?
  • What partnerships?
  • Nature of relationships ?
  • Role of government: enabler or intervener?
  • Enabling funding models?
  • Dynamics: what motivates-extends effectiveness innovation - risk?
  • Skills and knowledge needed?
