Vivienne Waller

Viv Waller is a Research Fellow in the Media and Communications Program of the ISR, currently working on the ARC-funded project The Searchers. This research is in partnership with the State Library of Victoria and investigates how people search for and use information, focusing in particular, on the implications of digital technologies and the implications for public libraries.

Viv’s research interests are in the social and political aspects of the use of new technologies, as well as social theory more generally.

Before coming to the ISR in 2007, Viv worked as a Research Fellow in the Department of Information Systems at the University of Melbourne and for the Regulatory Institutions Network of the Australian National University. She has published in the areas of regulatory policy, information systems and technology use.  

Viv has taught courses in policy, gender studies and political philosophy at RMIT and Monash University. Prior to entering academia, she worked as a consultant conducting social research and in policy and evaluation areas of the federal government.
