Thesis topic
Motor Telephony: Social and policy dimensions of phoning
and driving
Thesis abstract
This research seeks to explore the
use of mobile phones while driving. Drawing on the history of the development
of mobile telephony and automobiles,
the project will investigate the debates and controversies
surrounding the use of mobiles in cars. While a growing literature is
developing
around the sociology of mobile telephony, the area remains
under-researched, particularly in Australia. In light of the
legal and public safety issues at stake, people's use of mobiles while
driving is a pressing
and practical concern.
