Michelle Dimasi
Michelle Dimasi is a PhD student within the ISR’s Citizenship and
Government program. Michelle graduated from La Trobe University in 2007
with an Honours degree in Political Science and a major in Anthropology.
Her PhD thesis is a continuation of her Honours project, which examines
Australia’s asylum seeker policy in context of Christmas Island. In
2007, Michelle carried out qualitative research on Christmas Island and
will be re-visiting the island in late 2008 to continue fieldwork with
the Christmas Islanders. Her research interests include immigration and
detention in Australia; state sovereignty and the rights of asylum
seekers; and forced migration and displacement.
