James Scambary is a Research Fellow at the Swinburne Institute of Social Research. He is currently working on two projects:a survey on national identity in Melanesia; policing and the Vietnamese community in Victoria. Prior to Swinburne, James conducted ethnographic research for AusAID and the New York Social Science Research Council on gangs, organised crime, and communal conflict  in East Timor, which is also his PhD research focus.
