Karen Farquharson is Senior Lecturer in Sociology and Academic Head of Social and Policy Studies at Swinburne. Her research interests include the sociology of race and ethnicity, the sociology of the media, the sociology of sport, and the sociology of the internet. She teaches in Sociology and convenes the BA (Hons) in Social Science and Industry and Community Studies.

Prior to working at Swinburne, Karen was a Research Fellow at the Centre for Public Policy at the University of Melbourne. She holds a PhD from Harvard University and was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Cape Town in 1995-1996. Karen is a co-editor of the International Journal of Emerging Technologies and Society (http://www.swinburne.edu.au/ijets).
